Dynamic Model of a Virtual Air Gap Reactor

Variable reactors have been a vital component of power networks for decades, where they used as fault-current limiting devices or reactive compensation. Traditionally, modifying the inductance predominantly mechanically operated variable requires seconds to minutes. In contrast, virtual air gap (VAG) can change within milliseconds, potentially improving system stability. Existing dynamic models VAG cannot capture entire dynamics, their applicability simulations in time-domain. This research presents two reactor models, one with and without core losses. The all significant dynamics using electromagnetic principles flux linkage behavior. proposed were experimentally validated small reactor. Over broad operating range, both accurately reproduce behavior, transient response, dominant harmonics Consequently, may be variety applications, such time-domain simulations, harmonic analysis, development suitable controllers reactors. addition, engineers use loss omitting model design tool, actual is not required modeling.
